چکیده

24 Solid state elastocaloric cooling, the endothermic reversible martensitic phase transformation in shape 25 memory alloys, has the potential to replace vapor compression refrigeration. NiTi, Ni2FeGa, and CoNiAl 26 shape memory alloys were experimentally investigated to measure the magnitude of temperature 27 change using thermography during uniaxial tensile experiments. Consecutive tensile cycles were also 28 performed, and they revealed a symmetric temperature profile between the two cycles. The unique, dual 29 camera technique of digital image correlation and thermography was utilized to track the transformation 30 bands and temperature gradients to gain insight about the unloading, endothermic process. Fatigue 31 implications, elevated temperature environments, and the theoretical maximum temperature based on 32 entropy change were discussed. 33 ! 2015 Published by Elsevier Ltd. on behalf of Acta Materialia Inc. 34

Infrared thermography videos of the elastocaloric effect for shape memory alloys NiTi and Ni2FeGa

Infrared thermogrpahy was utilized to record the temperature change during tensile loading cycles of two shape memory alloy single crystals with pseudoelastic behavior. During unloading, a giant temperature drop was measured in the gage section due to the elastocaloric effect. This data article provides a video of a [001] oriented Ni2FeGa single crystal, including the corresponding stress-strai...

Giant and reversible room-temperature elastocaloric effect in a single-crystalline Ni-Fe-Ga magnetic shape memory alloy

Good mechanical properties and large adiabatic temperature change render Heusler-type Ni2FeGa-based magnetic shape memory alloys as a promising candidate material for solid-state mechanical cooling application at ambient conditions. Superelastic behavior and associated elastocaloric effect strongly reply on deformation conditions (e.g. applied strain rate and strain level) of stress-induced mar...

An in situ Study of NiTi Powder Sintering Using Neutron Diffraction

This study investigates phase transformation and mechanical properties of porous NiTi alloys using two different powder compacts (i.e., Ni/Ti and Ni/TiH2) by a conventional press-and-sinter means. The compacted powder mixtures were sintered in vacuum at a final temperature of 1373 K. The phase evolution was performed by in situ neutron diffraction upon sintering and cooling. The predominant pha...

TRANSFORMATION BEHAVIOR OF NiTi SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS TREATED BY THERMOMECHANICAL PROCESSING USING DSC

Abstract: In the present study the effect of thermomechanical treatment (cold work and annealing) on the transformation behavior of NiTi shape memory alloys was studied. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to determine transformation temperature and its relation to precipitates and defects. Three alloys including Ti-50.3at.% Ni, Ti-50.5at.% Ni (reclamated orthodontic wires) and 50.6at...
